App Interface Redesign

Know Your Rights 4 Immigrants is an informational application designed to help immigrants—particularly undocumented individuals—understand their rights during encounters with law enforcement and immigration authorities. While the app’s mission is critical, its existing design felt dated and limited in how it supported users beyond moments of immediate crisis.

Introduction

Introduction

Through user journey mapping, I identified key emotional pain points such as confusion, anxiety, and hesitation, particularly during high-stress encounters. This led to a design strategy that emphasized clear hierarchy, simplified language, and supportive features that encourage learning over time, such as lessons, progress tracking, and access to community resources.

Problem solving

My goal was to create a more human-centered experience that balanced urgency with long-term engagement. I focused on designing an interface that feels calm, accessible, and empowering—especially for users who may be navigating fear, stress, or uncertainty.

Implementation

I redesigned the app’s structure and interface to feel more modern, intuitive, and supportive. The main hub brings together news updates, educational lessons, and local support groups, encouraging users to return to the app outside of emergency situations. A persistent floating action button provides quick access to critical features, reinforcing usability when time and clarity matter most.

The final redesign reframes Know Your Rights 4 Immigrants as more than a reactive tool—it becomes a supportive system that educates, reassures, and empowers users over time. By integrating learning modules, progress indicators, and access to support groups, the app encourages repeat engagement while maintaining readiness for urgent situations.
